The first image in this collection isn’t mine. My sister took it in 2012, in a gondola, not long after I’d got my first DSLR. I’m the kid in the green shirt with the camera up to his face. It felt right to start there.
Since then I’ve taken a camera into the mountains whenever I could, enjoying the highland atmosphere and its beautiful surrounds.
Looking back over these pictures, I noticed how often I build a frame around a line. A trail, a road, a chairlift cable, a river, a jetty. I like the way it gives the eye somewhere to go. It draws you in, and it shows how big the world is next to the small objects and infrastructure we build to traverse it. Sometimes it points to where I’m headed. Sometimes it’s the way I came, seen from higher up. Either way it’s an invitation to follow it, and to wonder what’s over the next rise or just around the bend.
